Nexus Arts Gallery has exploded into a world of colour and whimsy, thanks to the attentions of artist-illustrator Anna Cherkasova. Yet, like a tombola twisting its final course, you’re running out of time to play the most colourful game of chance in town as the Farrago exhibition finishes on Friday 23 March.
Over the course of the exhibition Anna’s black and white line drawings of beasts, flowers, people and insects has seen a veritable ecological wonderland fill the walls, with gallery goers invited to pick up a texta and colour their dreams into reality.
To celebrate the the final coloured-in reveal, Nexus Arts will be throwing a party – with Farrago Bingo in full swing.
How does Farrago Bingo work?
Simply purchase a roll of the dice – or a spin of the tombola in this case – and you’ll receive a drink at the Nexus Bar, a raffle ticket and a piece of Farrago to take home. A 20 x 20cm piece wildly colourful and inventive artwork will be yours, and you may be the lucky winner of a large 1200 x 600cm panel. Inspired by the interconnectivity of the unseen world, you can continue the life and intention of the Farrago exhibition: seeking to highlight the beauty, colour and intricacies of cultural diversity – and our individual contributions to the whole.
Alongside the Farrago farewell, we will be launching the Nexus Arts 2018 Visual Arts program. Curated by French-Australian artist André Lawrence, the program includes a diverse range of artists, with the up-and-coming alongside more established artists including Damien Shen, Narges Anvar and Helpmann award-winning Yusef Hayat. It’s an exciting time for Nexus Arts, with a year of possibility looming before us. Encouraging the diversification of the arts scene in South Australia is a priority, representing culturally and linguistically diverse artists in all forms of art and culture.
It will be an interesting period after the state government election, so come and join us in a celebration of CALD artists and the wonderful contributions they make to our community. The Nexus beer garden will be open, with local South Australian beer and wine available and general good vibes.
