We’re thrilled to announce Sabika Jasmine, one of the talented musicians that have been selected to take a place in the Creative Cohesion program with Nexus Arts and Multicultural Communities Council of South Australia.

Sabika Jasmine is a welcomed addition to the program, with a wealth of performance behind her. First stepping onto the stage at the tender age of six with her father, Sabika’s early experiences set her up for a lifelong love of music. Hailing from Gwalior in northern India, she learnt Hindustani classical music from gurus of various renowned ‘gharanas’ (musical traditions). Before moving to Adelaide in 2016, Sabika honed her music with stage performances in India.

“Music is my life!” Sabika says, “It’s a dream that I get to live every day. Music comes from deep within your heart.”

Alongside solo performances, Sabika plays with her band Goonj, who have released singles both here and in India. Her greatest passions lie in singing Bollywood songs and dance music, while soft music and ghazal/Sufi singing music is very close to her heart.

“Music is an endless ocean – I am a lifelong student of it.”

With passion like that, we’re looking forward to keeping you updated on Sabika’s journey through the Creative Cohesion program at Adelaide’s Nexus Arts.

What is the Creative Cohesion Program?

Nexus Arts, in partnership with the Multicultural Communities Council of SA, presents Creative Cohesion: a two-stream development program working with musicians and communities from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Individual musicians are invited to apply to take part in the Community Musician Development Program to gain skills and experience in leading community music workshops, working with experienced community arts practitioner Julian Ferraretto.

Musicians (soloists, groups and ensembles) are invited to apply to take part in the Presentation and Promotion Program, which will see participants take part in a range of activities designed to develop professional skills, be provided with professional Media Kits to better equip their practice, and perform at the Nexus Arts CBD venue with appropriate marketing and promotional support.
