André Lawrence is a French-Australian artist, craftsperson, writer and curator, originally from the Northern Territory. His diversified practice interests include cultural diversity, intercultural artistic collaboration and curatorial cosmographies, stemming from his own experiences of displacement and cultural hybridisation. He has worked as main Gallery Technician for Nexus Arts since 2012 and was appointed as Visual Arts Coordinator in early 2018.
André holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) First-Class from the University of South Australia, specialising in sculpture and installation, and a Graduate Diploma in Visual Art & Design (Curatorship). He has previously been awarded the Australian Experimental Art Foundation (AEAF) Emerging Curator Mentorship, which culminated in the 135th Meridian East exhibition (2014), and an Arts SA mentorship which resulted in the publication of the 2016 SALA Monograph on Catherine Truman’s life work, Touching Distance. Among his eclectic practice activities, Andre enjoys upcycling furniture and the carving of life-like feathers and jewellery from native timbers.
