Nexus Arts presents ‘Daydreamer Wolf’ – a performance of experimental music by Afghani visual artist and poet Elyas Alavi in collaboration with leading Adelaide improvising musicians Chris Martin and Derek Pascoe.
Elyas Alavi will work with collaborators Chris Martin (piano) and Derek Pascoe (saxophone) to perform verbal-musical works combining spoken poetry with improvised music. These three collaborators last performed at a Nexus Live performance in 2013 (see video below) and are eager to reprise and further develop their relationship. Chris and Derek are leading figures in Adelaide’s improvised music scene and this performance event will draw audience from the jazz and experimental music target markets, as well as holding broader appeal to audiences interested in culturally diverse music, visual art and poetry.
Opening the performance will be the Angus Mason Trio, featuring Nicholas Pennington and Sam Anning. Leading Adelaide emerging jazz artists Angus (drums) and Nicholas (guitar) will be joined by Melbourne-based Sam (bass) for an opening set of creative, original jazz. Angus and Nicholas were both recently awarded scholarships to the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York City and this will make one of Nick’s final appearances in Adelaide before he moves to NYC.
