Nexus Arts is thrilled to welcome back the sage musicality of Australian oud player and composer Joseph Tawadros performing music from his remarkable new album World Music on Saturday September 17th.
“This album is totally different to anything I’ve done before,” Joseph says. “As well as the oud, I’m playing a range of other wonderful instruments. Music is a part of my being – I live and breathe it – and this record is my attempt to transfer that energy and life into these other instruments as well as my beloved oud. “
“For the ‘World Music’ album, I immersed myself in a range of genres, drawing upon my previous collaborations – practicing, adapting, improvising – letting my technical limitations on each instrument guide the course of the compositions. This is a very organic way of music making, letting the spirit of each instrument flow through me without striving for virtuosity.”
At 32, Joseph Tawadros is established as one of the world’s leading oud performers and composers. A virtuoso of diversity and sensitivity, Joseph performs in concert halls worldwide and is known for his brilliant technique, deep musicianship and joyous style of performance.
Joining Joseph on September 17 as he performs on Oud, Piano, Cello, Trumpet, Viola, Nay, Double Bass, Vocals and Qanun will be Matt McMahon (Piano) Karl Dunnicliff (Bass) and James Tawadros (Percussion)
“One of the most impressive musicians to emerge in Australia … with a dazzling technique dispensing hair-raising tempos… His writing displays a real depth of emotion …revelling in a zest for life and celebration.”
