Born in Santiago, Chile, Noni migrated to Australia at the age of 9 as his family fled the dictatorship of their homeland. Noni grew up performing Latin American folkloric music, proudly representing this culture on instruments including the charango, bombo, kena, and sikus.
Having performed with local groups including Expresiones and Funk Latin Union, Noni now focuses on his solo career, performing the music of icons including Violeta Parra and Victor Jara alongside original compositions which continue the exploration of this musical trajectory. He seeks to remind people that the revolution can continue without violence, and to acknowledge the basic human need of music.
Zuhir Naji is a remarkable oud player and singer, whose passion for music shines strongly at his very first note.
Before moving to Adelaide in 2016, he lived in Damascus, Syria, where he ran a music school. In Australia, he has performed at festivals and events including Woodford Folk Festival and OzAsia Festival.
Zuhir’s aim is to share Arabic music, both traditional and his own original compositions, with all Australians, and audiences will be delighted and compelled by his uplifting performances. He will be joined in this performance by Saleh al Mansoor on percussion.
