Are you an SA-based Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander musician, songwriter, or music producer aiming to develop your music career? Are you performing your own original music and want to reach a wider audience? Would you like help writing grant applications, recording new music or creating new marketing material? Would you like to build on your music and music industry skills?
Nexus Arts presents ‘Next Up’, a responsive program of workshops, individual mentoring and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contemporary musicians, aimed at creating further opportunities in performance and pathways into the music industry.
By “contemporary musicians”, we mean anyone creating original music. Country, rock, hiphop, art music, jazz – any genre is welcome and supported so long as the music is original (written by you).
If you have music you want to share with a wider audience and would like help to do this, we want to hear from you. Next Up 2019 will respond to the needs of successful applicants by providing advice, support, mentoring and concrete outcomes (think new photos, updated artistic biographies, music business workshops, and more).
This program is open to individual musicians and groups/bands. Applicants from regional SA are encouraged to apply.
The successful applicants:
- Must be identified as a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
- Have a body of performance or production-ready original work
- Already be performing this work live regularly or semi-regularly
- Have a strong desire and readiness to increase performance opportunities either locally, nationally or internationally, or to engage in creative development opportunities such as songwriting support or music production
