Composer, improviser, and visual artist Austin Engelhardt brings together an eclectic group of musicians for an evening of curiosity, collaboration, and sonic exploration. His work explores new ways of communicating through sound, notation, and shared creative practice, often inviting performers into an active, interpretive relationship with the music.
Joining him are flutist and sonic artist Maria Zhdanovich, currently studying at the Australian National Academy of Music and known for weaving Western art music traditions with contemporary composition and improvisation; Australian pianist and composer Esmond Choi, whose work bridges research, performance, and experimental repertoire; and saxophonist Derek Pascoe, who is known for constantly pushing the boundaries of his instrument and the possibilities of what music can be.
Together, these artists create a dynamic musical space where experimentation, improvisation, and composition intersect—reminding us that music, at its heart, is meant to be played.
