Enter a world where sound flows like water and stories are etched into song.

Where Water Meets — the acclaimed chamber-folk duo of Emily Sheppard (violin/viola/voice) and Yyan Ng(guitar/voice/wadaiko/shakuhachi) — bring their unique blend of classical, world, and folk modalities, to Nexus Arts for one unmissable night.

With a unique harmonic language and a deep reverence for place, their music weaves intricate soundscapes that resonate with emotional and ecological depth, alluding to the experience of the wilderness.

Where Water Meets have composed and toured two albums of highly acclaimed original chamber-folk music nationally and internationally. They have also been commissioned and performed by major arts organisations, including for the VCASS Orchestra (2025), Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (Obscura I, 2023), MONA FOMA/Big hART (Acoustic Life of Boat Sheds, 2021), Big hART (Soil, Pollen, Rain, Kelp, 2020), Beaker Street/Nyrstar (The Secret Life of Eels, 2021), the Bowerbird Collective (Moonbird/Lyrebird festival, 2023/2024), Hadley’s Hotel (Trail of Terrific Tales, 2022/2024) and the Australian Guitar Quartet (2023). They also scored the short film ‘We Belong to the Land’ about kunanyi/Mount Wellington.

Where Water Meets have also worked extensively as science communicators, creating ‘Imagining lutruwita’s Deep Time: A Journey through Science, Art and Song’ with paleoecologist Penelope Jones and artist Amy Jackett, presented by Birch’s Bay Art farm (2021), and the Unconformity (2021). They have pioneered the world’s first eel-skin instruments, that they presented at ‘Searching for the Eel song’ for TEDx Hobart (2023), ABC Artworks (2024) and as featured artists at the Lake Bolac Eel Festival (2024).

Join us for a performance that traverses folk lyricism, contemporary classical expression, and the elemental voice of the wilderness.
