All Our Little Boxes
Mim Crellin sings of turbulent times through a personal lens. Turning to the medium of an intricate and lyrical song cycle written for voice, jazz quartet and string quartet, Mim chronicles her last few years — a Pennsylvanian pandemic, a Scandinavian love story, a nightmarish cancer diagnosis in New York, an Adelaide homecoming to family and the miracle of high-quality healthcare.
One of Australia’s most creative jazz composers and vocalists, Mim Crellin returns to Australia after completing a Masters of Music in Jazz Arts from the Manhattan School of Music. Mim will be joined by a stellar ensemble hailing from Adelaide, Sydney and Denmark to premiere this new work. In ‘All Our Little Boxes’, she braids together her upbringing in the classical music world, her many years of jazz interpretation and improvisation, and her deep love of folk song and lyrics to bring you this collection of songs that is unique to her experience, yet speaks to the most universal of human needs.
This project is supported by Arts South Australia.
