Experience the unmatched artistry of Joseph Tawadros AM, an 8-time ARIA award winning oud virtuoso, composer, and one of Australia’s most captivating performers. Born in Cairo and now celebrated on the world stage, Joseph blends the ancient soul of the Arabic lute with the fire of contemporary innovation.
Praised by The Times UK for his ‘exhilarating’ mastery and by Limelight magazine for his “magnetic presence”, Joseph pushes the boundaries of tradition – fusing the oud’s timeless voice with influences from jazz, classical, and even rock.
From solo recitals and intimate duos with his brother James on Egyptian percussion, to performances with leading jazz luminaries and the world’s most renowned orchestras – including the Australian Chamber Orchestra, BBC Symphony, and Sydney Symphony – Joseph’s music is as diverse as it is moving.
His collaborations span genres and continents, from Richard Tognetti and William Barton to jazz legends like Jack DeJohnette and John Patitucci. His compositions have been performed by the Academy of Ancient Music, and his oud has graced film scores from Ali’s Wedding to The Water Diviner.
In recent years Joseph has performed for global audiences at the World Economic Forum, premiered works with the Britten Sinfonia, completed a record-breaking 25-hour oud marathon for charity, and played to 15,000 people at Montréal’s Olympic Stadium.
Awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in 2016, Joseph continues to inspire with his fearless creativity, deep musicianship and joyous storytelling.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to witness a musician who redefines what the oud can be – blurring the lines between East and West, tradition and innovation.
