Join us for a closing night event to celebrate Alice Hu’s exhibition, Chaostopia.
Musician David Wei-Han Dai will respond to the exhibition in the Gallery space. His improvisation on the Huqin will evoke your sense of wonder, complexity, and interconnectedness through the Chaostopia.
David Wei-Han Dai, a versatile musician trained as an Erhu player, passionately embraces the arts. His career spans Erhu performance, conducting, and composition. He has showcased his talent in Australia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Africa, and China. Notably, since 2018, he has performed with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and collaborated with the School of Chinese Music and Art at multiple festivals including OzAsia Festival and the Adelaide Fringe Festival. He began working with Musica Viva in 2023 as a teaching artist, touring Australian schools with the ensemble San Ureshi, which he co-founded. He is also a founder of the ensemble Silk Strings and was a Nexus Arts Interplay Artist in 2021.
This free event gives a new perspective to the exhibition through the musical interpretation provided by David, based in the two artists’ shared understanding of the concept of hundun – an untranslatable word loosely meaning a state of ‘deep chaos’.
